Simone Biles

 Simone Arianne Biles (/sI’moUn ‘baI@lz/; March 14, 1997; 4) is an American artistic gymnast. She tied Shannon Miller for the number of Olympic medals she won in American gymnastics and is currently ranked ninth in the world for the most medals. Having won 25 World Championship medals, she is the most decorated gymnast ever to compete at the Gymnastics World Championships, and is considered by many sources to be the best gymnast ever. Joe Biden awarded Biles the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2022. Biles received individual gold medals at Rio's 2016 Summer Olympics. Bronze on the balance beam, vault, and all-around were her awards. Biles also won bronze in the United States Team, which was known as the "Final Five". Biles was unable to participate in the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics because of "the twisties" the air balance disorder that affects her ability to control her balance. Biles took home an Olympic silver medal for the US team and she won a bronze medal on the balance beam. The judges praised her partial withdrawal, mental and physical health focus, perseverance, as well as her determination to be safe. The athlete is also five time World all-around champion (2013-15 and 2018-19), five times World floor exercise champion (2013)-2015 and 2018-2019) and three times World balance beam champion (2014)-2015 and 2019), two times World vault champion (2018), and was part of the gold-winning American teams at all four World Artistic Gymnastics Championships (2014 2015, 2014, 2018, and 2019). She has also been a three-time World silver medalist (2013 and 2014 on vault, 2018 on uneven bars, 2018 on vault) and three-time World bronze medalist (2015 on vault, 2013 and 2018 on balance beam, 2013 and 2018 on vault).

Biles is the gymnast who earned the most World gold medals (19) and World medals (25) in the world. She also surpasses Vitaly Scherbo's record of 23 World medals. Biles won her 24th- and 25th place and both gold at Stuttgart's 2019 competition. She holds the record for the most all-around World titles (5). She is the sixth female to win both an individual and team all-around title at the Olympics or World Championships. Biles is the tenth first American female gymnast to win the World medal in every event. This feat was achieved during the 2018 World Championships. Biles was born on March 14, 1997, in Columbus, Ohio, the third of four siblings.Her birth mother, Shanon Biles, was incapable of caring for Simone or her siblings - Adria, Ashley, and Tevin. All four children were put in foster care. Biles' maternal grandfather Ron Biles and Nellie Cayetano Biles were aware that Shanon was placed in foster care. They began caring for Shanon's children for a short time in Spring, Texas in 2000. In 2003, Simone and Adria were adopted by the couple. Shanon's aunt, Ron's sister Harriet, adopted the two children. Biles has Belizean citizenship via her adoptive mother . Biles refers to Belize as her second home. Biles is Catholic like her family.
